. . .to questions
internet, fibre broadband & wi-fi
The following are just some of the most commonly asked questions about the increasingly complex broadband internet and 'smart' device technology. . . and answers from oztech!
Is oztech really independent? Yes, completely. We are not associated or affiliated with any Internet Service Provider or Telecoms Company.
Do I need to use an engineer from my ISP? Not at all, that's why oztech exists!
Where can oztech visit? An engineer can attend locations across Shropshire, North Wales & the Welsh Borders including; Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Welshpool, Wrexham, Corwen, Whitchurch and Llangollen.
Is it cheaper using an oztech engineer? Much less! Typically, the cost for an oztech engineer is £60 an hour on-site, around half that of an engineer from a large telecoms provider.
Does oztech apply a call-out charge? If you live within 20 miles of Oswestry there are no call out charges! For locations beyong 20 miles a small fuel surcharge of £10 may be payable.
Can you call in the evenings or weekend? Yes. Many of our customers work full-time, so oztech can arrange an engineer visit up until 7pm, or at weekends, with no out-of-hours charge!
What is TeamViewer? It's a small programme that will allow oztech to access your computer to address problems and optimise your system without requiring a physical visit.

How can I test the speed of my broadband? There are several FREE on-line applications that will measure the speed of your connection. You may like to try FAST.COM.
What download speed should I expect? Broadband delivered via an ordinary phone line (or ADSL) should download at between 10Mbps and 20Mbps, with 'high speed' fibre broadband internet beginning at around ten times this speed.
Is Fibre Broadband more expensive? Yes, typically around double the price of ADSL. . . but usually provides ten times the speed and capacity!
Do I need to use the router or hub supplied by my service provider? Yes, it would usually be preferable to use the hub supplied but, if there are 'dead spots' in your home, a signal booster may help to fill in the gaps!
